In the Wolfcamp, porosity associated with organic matter (PAOM) is interbedded with inter and intra granular porosity. Most of the hydrocarbon resource is likely to be stored in the organic matter hosted pores. A major goal was to quantify total porosity (PhiT), effective porosity (PhiE) and porosity associated with organic matter (PAOM) from core samples and use this data to aid in interpretation of the wireline log data.

In this paper, we present a framework that combines advances in DRA and Machine Learning (ML) to characterize rock samples at a large scale. The framework is based on the understanding that a rock consists of multi-scale rock fabrics spatially intermixed. Ingrain developed ML algorithms that can automatically learn about rock fabrics and their patterns. This methodology leverages the power of DRA and its contribution to a more accurate rock characterization.
